Spook Show Entertainment Inc. announced today that they will be moving all of their film festival events to the Portage Theater (home to SSE’s Chicago Horror Film Festival event for more then half a decade) by the end of 2013.  This transition begins with The 2012 Indy Horror Film Festival being moved to the historic venue this season.  The Indy event has been hosted by Dekalb Illinois’ Egyptian Theatre since being brought back from an expired festival 2 years ago.  Willy Adkins (festival director / president of SSE) states, “I have always loved the Egyptian Theatre, and the move to Chicago wasn’t an easy decision to make”, he continues “It came down to resources, customer demand and our need to grow.”  Adkins stated that “Spook Show Entertainment will continue to host many events in Dekalb, including haunted tours at the Egyptian Theatre and monthly movie and mixed media events at the House Cafe.  This move is taking place simply because we have to go where the event type is in demand”  SSE’s home office is located in Dekalb and Adkins stated that the company has no intentions of moving its offices out of Dekalb anytime soon.

The Afterlife Paranormal Conference & Film Festival will also be premiering in Chicago in October 2012.  Other SSE festivals to make the move to Chicago in 2013 include, The Prairie State Film Festival and The Laugh or Die Comedy Festival, both of which are scheduled at the House Cafe in 2012 for one more year in Dekalb.

Adkins closed by saying, “Jason Sullivan (SSE Vice President) and I both have high expectations with this new decision and look forward to many years of events at the Portage Theater”.

You can meet Willy Adkins & Jason Sullivan as they sponsor a meal for Dekalb’s “Feed’em Soup Community Project” on Sunday December 18th.  That same day, they are co-hosting a charity fundraiser called “Holiday Healing” at The House Cafe of Dekalb to benefit the same organization.

Ron Fabiani Investigator

A police officer in the Chicago area since 1987, Ron Fabiani is skilled in Field Training, Evidence, Gangs, and Homicide Investigations and has been a Sergeant since 1996.

Intrigued by the paranormal for many years, he toured many notoriously haunted areas around Chicago and videotaped some significant paranormal activity, which prompted him to pursue an explanation. After discovering there were other police officers who wanted answers for apparent paranormal occurrences, Ron subsequently formed the Chicago Paranormal Detectives (C.P.D.). Ron’s goal is to find evidence of paranormal activity and to help people who request assistance from the group. Known to the team as “Fabs,” Ron is often seen with a cigar dangling from his mouth

Tom Froelich Investigator

Currently a criminal investigator, Tom Froelich has been in law enforcement in the Chicago area since 1990 with assignments as a patrol and tactical officer within his agency.

Tom became interested in the paranormal more than a decade ago after attending numerous organized ghost tours throughout the country and after several personal paranormal experiences. Tom founded the C.P.D. along with Ron Fabiani. Since pursuing this interest, Tom has had the opportunity to conduct paranormal investigations both overseas and in the US and he hopes to add more credibility to the field.

Jack was born Sept. 10, 1947. He has been a paranormal researcher and investigator since 1972, while living in Alton, Illinois from his youth. He became interested in the field while looking for information on the Paramedic field at Alton’s Hayner Public Library. Jack became a Paramedic in 1979 with extensive traing in the area of cardiology which plays allot in his theory of a ghost’s makeup considering the electrical energy in the human body. During his search, he noticed a book on the table and the word “Ghost” caught his eye. It was written by Dr. Hans Holzer, the first accredited parapsychologist, Titled “Ghost Hunter” written in 1963. Later he became more interested after reading the writings of Harry Price and other authors. He had many research groups over the years up to the current, The Litchfield Illinois Ghost Trackers Group (LIGTG) in 2007 with 12 current active members. He trains and cross trains all of his members on their equipment and the theories behind its use and LIGTG protocol, which follows the AGS that he was once an active member of. His main interest is residential hauntings and historical locations in Illinois, Missouri and Indiana. LIGTG has investigated the McPike Mansion in Alton, The James J Eldred House in Eldred Illinois, and The Minerals Springs Hotel in Alton. Also among some of the historical place are The Strawbridge / Shepherd House in Springfield, Illinois, The Virgil Hickox House / Norb Andy’s Taberin in Springfield, Illinois and the Elijah Isles House also in Springfield. From the end of 2008 and 2009 the team conducted 55 investigations, including return trips, and it appears that 20010 will be no different for the team.

The team’s main goal is to prove the existence of ghosts and learning what makes them tick. He is very particular as to what evidence is chosen for presentation to the paranormal community and the public in general. In Summer, 2010 his first book, The Maverick Ghost Hunter, will be released.

DEAN THOMPSON has spent several years putting together pieces of the paranormal puzzle.   In 2007 Dean founded the Illinois Paranormal Historical Society.  IPHS is a Historical Research Society that focuses on Illinois Paranormal history.  In early 2010 Dean was welcomed as part of the Illinois Ghost Hunters as a case manager.  He remains very active with both organizations.

Dean will show off his research skills by giving an in-depth look into the history and hauntings of the Stratford Inn that we call home to this years conference.  This multi-media presentation will be one to surely open your eyes to the historic value of this amazing place!
